Trending Ahead – A Look at 2017 Colors

January is always an exciting month for my team. It’s a time to look forward at what is to come and a time to plan for the future of our product line. I agree, it sounds a bit early, but in my world we have to stay ahead of the home fashion trends. To kick things off, the Ekornes international fabric and leather group gathered for two days at our factory in Sykkylven, Norway to explore the next big thing in fabric and leather colors.

So, how do we predict the future?

We start with a diverse mix of people with an eye for style. Each person in our international fabric and leather group represents a different market from Europe, to the United States and beyond. Having a group with different backgrounds allows us to better explore the needs of each market – taking a full look at what colors are selling and what colors are not selling. To me, this is very exciting as it opens my eyes to what is in and out of style around the world.

Then the group shares key industry findings. Part of my responsibilities include attending trend seminars to stay in touch with what is happening industry wide. So, it was up to me to present what I’ve learned. I shared details with our group on trends from England, Italy, Norway, Denmark and the Asian market to give everyone a sense of what is happening on the color front globally.

Through sharing our needs and knowledge we work together to determine the colors that make the most sense for Stressless.

It is still early, so I can’t divulge too much, but can give you a sneak peek of what to expect. After all, we have a lot of new fabrics in our future for our sofas and chairs as well as new leather colors based on the trends we are seeing. There’s a bright future ahead!

In general, the color range for 2017 will go from very light, almost transparent colors, to pastels and deep rich and sharp colors. So, there is something for all tastes. We’ve found that the purple family is emerging and violet hues are becoming more and more popular. We’re also seeing red casts and expect deep green (HYDRO) to be a prominent color in the home style trends for 2017. Of course, neutrals are still (and always will be) in style – grey and beige are here to stay.

For the future of Stressless color options, there’s more excitement to come later this year. We can’t wait to share it with you!

Cheers!
